Community Funds

These funds are the heart of the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation. Built by both small and large contributions, they are designed to have maximum flexibility in order to respond to changing community needs. Grants from these funds support a wide range of community endeavors including: Arts, Culture & Heritage; Conservation/Environment; Health; Social Services; Children & Youth; Education; Seniors; Sports & Recreation. They include:

SCCF Fund (held by the Vancouver Foundation)
Established by the Foundation with 1:1 matching funds from the Vancouver Foundation.

Agency Funds

These are funds created by a charitable organization with all income flowing directly to the organization. They include:

Iris Loewen Endowment (Sechelt Public Library)
Established by the Sechelt Public Library Association in recognition of librarian, Iris Loewen upon her retirement. Grants from this fund support the programs and activities of the Sechelt Public Library.

SC Botanical Garden Society Endowment
Established initially by Lynne and Peter Bogardus. Grants from this fund support the programs and activities of the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society.

SC Hospice Society Endowment
Established by the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society to support its programs and activities.

Music For Youth Endowment (Sunshine Coast Community Services)
Established with funds raised through a ‘Waking Life’ concert and CD sales organized by singer, songwriter, musician Daniel Kingsbury and donations from CKAY FM radio to the Coast Cultural Alliance Society. Grants from this fund will support young musicians who require financial assistance to further their musical endeavours.

Pender Harbour & District Health Centre Endowment
Established by the Pender Harbour & District Health Centre Society. Grants from this fund support the programs and activities of the Pender Harbour & District Health Centre .

Tomorrow Project Endowment (Sunshine Coast Community Services)
Established by Margaret Page in support of female entrepreneurship and opportunity.

Sunshine Coast Community Services Fund
Grants from this fund support activities and programs in social services.

Cunliffe Heritage Endowment (SC Museum & Archives)
Established by Don & Sandra Cunliffe to assist and support programs and activites that would help preserve, with some emphasis on the history of Halfmoon Bay, the heritage of the Sunshine Coast.

SC Arts Councils’ Doris Crowston Endowment Fund
Established by family and friends in memory of Doris Crowston. This fund was created in honour of the contributions to the SC Arts Centre (now the Doris Crowston Gallery) by the late Doris Crowston, a long-time volunteer and benefactor to the Gallery. Grants from this fund support activities and programs at the Gallery.

SC Endowment to Support Youth in Sports (KidSport – SC Chapter)
Established by Frank and Muriel Daly to assist youth on the Sunshine Coast who are under 18 and lack adequate finances or financial support specifically for the purchase of sporting equipment, registration fees and lessons, with the emphasis on the purchase of sporting equipment.

Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts Marie Steel Memorial Endowment
Established by family in memory of Marie Steel. This fund was created in recognition of Marie’s volunteering to the Festival of the Written Arts and to her love of reading. Grants from this fund support activities and programs of the Festival.

Donor Advised Funds

These funds give the donor the opportunity to participate in the grant-making process through an involvement in the ongoing selection of charities that will benefit from their gift. They include:

The Jean & Arthur Clarke Endowment
Established by Mrs. Jean Clarke and family in memory of Arthur Clarke. Grants from this fund support children and youth in sport and recreation activities.

The Janet & Robert Johnston Family Endowment
Established by Robert Johnston in memory of wife Janet. This fund will support a wide variety of areas of interest.

The John & Janey Talbot Family Endowment
Established by John and Janey Talbot to support a wide variety of areas of interest.

John Vance Legacy Fund
Established by family and friends in memory of John Vance. Grants from this fund support arts and music that reflect John’s interests.

Howe Sound Pulp & Paper Employees Endowment
Established by the employees of HSPP. Grants from this fund support organizations providing health-related services to Sunshine Coast residents.

Rotary Club of Gibsons Endowment
Established by the Rotary Club of Gibsons to support it’s charitable activities on the Sunshine Coast.

Field of Interest Funds

These funds allow the donor to specify a field of interest in supporting the community that may include the following areas: Arts, Culture & Heritage; Conservation/Environment; Health; Social Services; Children & Youth; Education; Seniors; Sports & Recreation, but could include other fields of interest approved by the Foundation. (Ex. Animals)

Blane and Henny Hagedorn Family Endowment
This fund was established by Blane and Henny Hagedorn to support health and wellness on the Sunshine Coast.

Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival Endowment
Established by the Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival Society to provide scholarships for students who attended a secondary school on the Sunshine Coast and is taking a fibre arts related course at a post secondary institution, with preference being given to a student attending Capilano University. Also to support Sunshine Coast charities that develop, or encourage the development of, fibre arts in public places.

The Foundation’s own Environment Legacy Fund
Established by the Foundation from ‘Kick-start’ funding from the McConnell Foundation/CFC. Grants from this fund support community environmental initiatives including, but not limited to, protection and preservation of habitat, fragile and unique ecosystems, quality of air, water and soil; restoration of shoreline; encouragement of stewardship of private land and water and education.

The Foundation’s own Youth Legacy Fund
Established for the Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council called Youth SCOOP (Youth Sunshine Coast Organization of Philanthropy) Grants from this fund support youth activities and projects recommended by Youth SCOOP.

Robertson/McDonald Family Education Endowment
This fund was established by Pamila Robertson, Peter McDonald and Michelle McDonald to provide bursaries and scholarships to graduates from School District 46  attending post secondary educational institutions..

Sunshine Coast Endowment for Visual Arts
Established by Bill and Heather Beamish to support the Visual Arts on the Sunshine Coast.
