Context Statement: People contribute to their communities in many ways: volunteering at the local senior’s centre, voting in municipal elections, coaching a team, sitting on a Board of a community organization, or donating to the local food bank. Regardless of how people engage, the role we play in our community contributes to the level and quality of leadership and to the well-being of our region.

Sub-Issues (in order of priority): Accountability/ governance; Social capital & networks; Inclusiveness & equal access; Accessibility of programs re openness, welcoming new members and geographic accessibility; Philanthropy; Public participation & involvement.

  1. Voter turnout
  2. Seniors Living Alone
  3. Unpaid work (caring for children/parents)
  4. Percent of tax filers making charitable donations
  5. Median charitable donations
  6. Community Learning Index: “Learning to Live Together”
  7. Population that Lived at the Same Address 1 Year Ago/5 Years Ago
  8. Population that Speaks a Non-official language at home
